Crazy Road Names

It’s a data entry day for LtL, and I just came across a great road name: Gore Orphanage Road. There’s a story in that I’m sure.

If you know of any interesting road (street, avenue, etc.) names, drop a comment. I think sometime I will write a story populated by people with names I’ve gathered from spam messages and but all living in places that are real but seem fictional.

Slowly Returning to a Liminal State

Due to a series of unfortunate occurrences, the LtL blog has been struggling to get back to a fully functional state. This should be complete by the end of the week. Thanks for your patience.

Wind Shears

WIND SHEAR, a sudden, drastic change in wind direction or speed over a comparatively short distance. Most winds travel horizontally, as does most wind shear, but under certain conditions, including thunderstorms and strong frontal systems, wind shear will travel in a vertical direction. Microburst wind shear is an extremely violent downward blast of air that …

An Assessment

For too long now I have been grasping for at straws rather than making my own chocolate milkshake.

A Reminder

Tony Long writes a column for Wired called “The Luddite.” I recommend you read his November 9th column, “Oh, the (Lack of) Humanity.”

I know that living in NYC I have become inured to homelessness and need and quite often simply ignore those people who have nothing, who are dirty, who smell, who scare me with their need and their misery. So I ignore them, pretend they don’t exist and all the while, there is a yawning, gulping feeling in my stomach that tells me I am doing the wrong thing, making the wrong choice. It’s not about giving them money per se, but acknowledging them as human beings.

Anyway, it’s a good article.
