Spirit Photography Pre-Photoshop
I came across a great set of photographs on Flickr put up by the National Media Museum of William Hope’s spirit photography. I often forget that Flickr has a lot of old and public domain material that has been published by various archives and organizations. If you go to Flickr’s The Commons, you’ll find a huge amount of images that you can use for your own work.
William Hope’s images may look obviously fake to us now, but try to imagine how compelling they must have looked back when he was producing them, especially for those who were eager for some sort of evidence of life after death.
