Some Thoughts from Reading about Intercultural Theatre

The phrase ‚??politically correct‚?? immediately short-circuits any possibility of dialogue. 1a. Folded into the phrase ‚??politically correct‚?? is the assumption that the person who is being ‚??politically correct‚?? has no right to his or her feeling about a subject. This is a particularly dangerous assumption if one wants to value egalitarianism, multiculturalism or interculturalism … …

I Still Live

However, I have been a) busy and b) busy and c) have had little to say of interest.

I will work on it.

Ikea’s a Dangerous Place

This is the second Ikea opening that I’ve heard about that has ended up with people being injured or dying.

Not a big fan of humanity at the moment.

Oh, and goodbye Arthur Miller.

Really, what kind of “journalism” is this?

Primetime Live is doing a show on “John of God” – a Brazilian “healer” and “surgeon.” He just did “surgery” and the show doesn’t even spend anytime showing that it was an illusion. When the journalists are willing to be lied to, are eager to simply put out “facts” without any sense of skepticism or journalistic inquiry. ABC’s website for the show is here. It’s rather disturbing that ABC is putting this forth as a news story.

Jim Jones created miracles as well and we all know how that turned out. For another view about psychic surgery, see this.

Depressing.

No title title

Have been sick the last week or so. Was in NY staying with Joya from last Thursday – Monday morning and we were orginally going to an Image Theatre workshop but I wasn’t up to it. I’m finally starting to feel a bit better (sleep definitely helped).

I’m at work scanning in information about VCU alumni and came across an amazing glass artist. You can find his work here.

Watched Spiderman 2 last night while I was up coughing and unable to sleep. Had pretty much the same reaction as to the first: I liked it and I respected Sam Raimi’s devotion to really keeping with the feel of the comics, but it didn’t do a whole lot for me.

There is no crisis!!!

Some thoughts: 1) Making the Bush tax cuts for the elite permanent will cost three to five times more than any shortfall in the Social Security program. 2) If the Republicans are serious about not cutting benefits to seniors, why don’t they propose a voting supermajority requirement to cut benefits? Best, Matt, Bob, and Josh …

Some Music Notes

I’ve only heard one song from Jim White’s album Drill a Hole in the Substrate and Tell Me What You See. But it is a phenomenal song. Aimee Mann sings back up and you can find the song here. I’ve also recently bought two albums: Marianne Faithfull’s Before the Poison and Badly Drawn Boy’s Fed …

First Post Here

I’ve been checking out different blog sites and communities, and while I like Salon.com – I don’t feel like buying the software that they require. At least now. So, this will be the new home for a while.
